Our Mission
Have you found the answer?
St. Joseph A.M.E. Zion Church mission in this present age, is to present the Good News of the saving grace of God through His Son Jesus Christ, who came to save dying men and women from their sins.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His son into world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)
Rev. Kevin Knight, Pastor
Jacqueline Bowser-Knight, First Lady

Rev. Kevin L. Knight Sr. is the Pastor of St Joseph AME Zion Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. He is the husband of Jacqueline Bowser-Knight and the proud father of Johnetta, John, Chandre, Khali, Teja, Kevin Jr., and Taylor. Along with his children, Rev. Knight has five wonderful grandchildren—Victoria, Amir, Ayden, Wynter, and Noemi—who affectionately call him "G Pop."
Pastor Knight was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised in the Crestwood community of Chesapeake, Virginia, before moving to North Carolina. After graduating from high school in North Carolina, Rev. Knight joined the United States Navy, serving his country for 22 years and obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring in 2013.
Rev. Knight works as the Operations Manager at Physicians Choice Billing, a medical billing company that he and his wife have owned for 20 years, where he oversees twenty medical practices in the Hampton Roads area. Rev. Knight is deeply committed to the work of the Lord and has a servant’s heart. Upon completing his conference studies, he plans to enter the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union.
Rev. Knight's motto is "Facta Non Verba," a Latin phrase meaning "acts, not words." His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."
